Looking back at 2009 within the ECM, BPM and BPO sector

Without any doubt 2009 has been a difficult year.  The credit crunch reached a crescendo,  becoming a recession, which lead to soaring unemployment, whilst media hype went into a frenzied whirlwind of unfettered hyperbole.
I have three overriding impressions from this year and they may or may not be linked. Firstly, let me start with one of this year’s biggest topics of discussion - “The Banks”.

The recession, starting in the US, spread around the globe and continues to impact everything, from business decisions to earnings reports. While it finally appears that the worst is over, there are still some negatives, such as the slow employment recovery in the US.

Positive outlook in Asia Pac for 2010

So, 2009, the year of the Ox is drawing to a close. The key characteristics of Caution Courage and Conservatism, in this year of the Chinese horoscope, were very much in evidence as companies took stock of their fortunes, hunkered down and rode out the economic storm. There are now positive signs of recovery for 2010 and many of the economic pundits see Asia Pacific as leading the world out of economic recession.
 

Lombardi in to the Big Blue

IBM has announced it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Lombardi, a privately held software company based in Austin, Texas. Financial terms were not disclosed. Lombardi, a provider of Business Process Management (BPM) software and services.
Lombardi has customer relationships in the financial services, government, healthcare, insurance, life sciences, manufacturing, retail, and telecommunications industries. 

Looking Back at Continental Europe 2009:

2009 has been a special year for many of the companies we have been in contact with in the ECM, BPM & BPO sector. At the beginning of the year, the majority of the companies stated quite confidently that they didn’t expect to encounter any significant problems caused by the credit crisis. On the contrary, the majority of them believed in the forecasts of many analysts or guru’s that the crisis would work out well, generating increased demand for ECM and BPM solutions.
