Heads up for ECM, BPM & BPO software executives globally
I am sure that there are many senior executives who often feel like the two soldiers in the picture I took a few weeks ago. It is not an old Vietnam war picture but a re-enactment day which I attended.
Business is a battle and can be tough. When you have your head down in the trenches, commanding the troops and fighting off rivals, striving to reach business targets and fire fighting, then a bird’s eye view of your industry or specific sector can be hard to obtain.
I know in my meetings, when I ask about competitors, I am constantly amazed at the blind spots all companies have, although it is understandable and almost inevitable. The real mistake though, is when this restricted view is perceived to be an accurate representation of “THEIR WORLD”.
Document Boss has been in operation now for over 11 years and I have never known any executive who knew more than 60% of the players in their sector. Many were aware of their myopia, some admitted it, some wouldn’t, preferring to believe they had perfect, 20/20 vision. However, when questioned further on some specifics, it was obvious that they had restricted vision of even their most immediate sector.

Make sure that, in drawing your battle lines and creating your M&A plans, you are not making decisions based upon a limited view of your sectors of interest.
